The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior Season 2

While Season 1 was incredibly catchy and solid, Season 2 felt considerably weaker by comparison. On the positive side, this season expanded the characters and deepened the bonds with other nations, successfully moving the plot beyond Freesia into two new kingdoms. However, it still lacked several key elements for me. The first season gave us much more action and combat, which got me really hyped for the upcoming war arc. That’s why I was incredibly disappointed when they decided to leave it on a cliffhanger right before the actual war even started. I don't know if the author is just highly confident that a Season 3 is guaranteed, but ending it this way felt deeply unsatisfying. Additionally, the trope where literally everyone surrounding Pride is secretly in love with her is starting to feel heavily overused. I’m not saying it’s inherently bad, but I expected the story to head in a different direction. The way it's handled right now isn't very engaging. Personally, I would prefer to see their affection mature into genuine respect, showing how they act out of loyalty to a powerful and wise ruler rather than just simple infatuation.

This is what happens when you write something from a single, limited point of view. The creators clearly have a specific scene in mind, and they will sacrifice everything else just to force it to happen. In the span of three minutes, you are introduced to a brand-new concept, you watch the main character use it to "aura farm," and then it completely loses all relevance to the world. This flaw applies to every single character. They all seem to think only within the exact perspective of that specific scene. There is no logical reason for a character to behave or think that way, other than it being required for the author's desired setup. To call them one-dimensional is an understatement; they have no dimension at all. They are just single points existing for a single focus in a scene, and then they are instantly forgotten.

First season of this was really good, a story about reincarnated FMC who is trying to create a better future for herself and everyone else. What made it unique is that we could also see the original FMC and how evil and cruel she actually was. And season 2 continues building on that, despite being filler season in it's essence. Animation and music: they are both solid. Animation was good and fluid, I kind of noticed that they were on budget but they have it their best not to drop in quality. Music was also good, but no memorable tracks this time as well. Overall - animation and music are industry standard ones, nothing great but nothing terrible either. Characters: pretty much everyone returns from season 1, and they mostly stayed the same. Which is no surprise as there was not really anything to develop from their, most of their characters were already well developed in previous season. Pride herself is slowly changing a bit in a sense that she is becoming more open about herself to the people around her, which after 18 years living with them is a given. Especially after her mother becomes more open toward her and admits that she was cold all this time because she could see the original Pride in her visions and only now was she sure she will not become that evil and decided to actually start treating her as a daughter. In return that made Pride kind of confine with Stale how she was afraid of becoming like that. While nothing major it is a step in building closer relations with everyone. Even Tiara is becoming more stern in being with her sister when she is in danger and helping her out. Two new characters we got introduced here are Leon and Cedric, each a prince of their own Kingdom and each with their issues. I am grouping them together as they are very similar, in a way that their issues can cost them not only their lives but the future of their nations as well and Pride is the one that helps them to overcome over them and grow as a people. Very similar to everyone else she did in the 1st season. Overall - old characters are all back but without noticeable development. Two new characters are interesting and their backstories are something to look forward to. Story: probably the weakest segment of this season. Mostly because it looks more like a filler season than true continuation as it all builds to the big event that is not happening here but it will start at the beginning of next season. Dealing with two new characters and Pride's own life bits are what this season is worth watching for. Other than that there is nothing much to find here, all established characters return and do their own roles determined by story. The most exiting this will unfortunately not be found in this season, as half of this season served as a buildup for that event. There were not even big battles like they were in season 1. Overall - story is least interesting thing as it serves more like an interlude to the next big thing than the thing itself. But it has it's interesting moments, especially when dealing with two new characters. Overall grade: 10 for me as a fan of the series, but realistically this anime sits anywhere between 7 and 8. The drama is still there and Pride and others are as likable as they were in previous season but this part of the story being filler really shows, especially toward the end. I would recommend this but only if you watched season 1. And to treat it as more of an interlude to future season or movie, which I will check out for sure if it ever get released. And I am very hyped for this giving the buildup for it from episode 6 onward.

This hurts to admit as a massive fan of the first series but this isn't good. Pride is back and is as self-sacrificing as ever. Stale and Arthur have more prominent roles which is nice and the new characters have depth. However this is a harem season so there are endless, and I mean endless, shots of flustered and blushing kids. Some other thoughts - Unless they make a season 3 I will truly consider this a waste of my time. That is linked to the ending, but I won't say more. - The dub is dreadful, something I don't normally care about but this is a bad one. - I live in a monarchy so this might just be me but honestly this is the most ridiculous series of royals ever, it is almost immersion breaking when people cry about how they just love their citizens too damned much. - If I have to hear them describe their personalities to each other one more time I'm going to scream. By rights I should give this a 3-5 but I can't. I still like Pride, she's still a strong willed but flawed character who spends too much time in her own head. I still feel there's more that Tiara and Stale could contribute and the story was going somewhere before it abruptly ended. But this season feels like it was spinning its wheels, perhaps that's the source material but I hope not.

My disappointment from the first season is unchanged but the progress of this one got better. The art style is kept the same and there doesn't seem to have been any deviation on character traits. Still more royal slice-of-life than anything else but the ending sets up for a big battle and I'm expecting much from it now that I've come this far. There's also the deal with the mysterious characters that got a few mins in 2 episodes so that should be getting expanded on next season. I honestly dislike how drama shows keep it are mostly about relationships and daily life. But the story has it's interesting factor of abnormal powers and other events. I liked the sweet and frazzled moments although not as impactful or varied, it raised some value.

I liked season 1, it wasn't perfect as it had issues, I hoped season 2 would be better as I thought those issues would go away with time I was wrong Season 2 is a bit of a let down, it kind of drifts through the storylines and becomes a bit dull. It focuses too much on politics and it's not good at it, everyone dances around each other not saying anything about what is really going on, while Pride narrates the truth through what she knows from the Otome Game, and then eventually Pride will stop the dance to reveal all to declare the intentions of the other parties, while declaring it was all a 'premonition' I don't mind politics heavy or story heavy anime when it is actually good at it and the writing holds up, but this is not that, this is pretty average in what it does and so it really needs to mix it up in order to keep your interest to keep you watching, Season 1 understood this, it actually had balance and there was enough action to keep you entertained. I would have finished watching this a few weeks ago except half way through I checked out, I needed a break and went to watch other anime instead, that is how much it managed to lose my interest with how much it dragged on. Then I came back to it and the second half started with the same song and dance, I questioned my life choices and then it started to do something interesting, it picked up, it actually started to build toward something... This was a great turn of events and kept my interest and just as it was about to get good, it ended. I'm not sure if Season 2 is a big waste of time, it feels like there are a of things that could have been cut or abbreviated, it is too slow and just feels like it is a set-up for Season 3, which at this point we don't know will even happen and I'm not even sure it deserves a Season 3 after this poor showing What I do like is that Season 2 does further build on the world, it shows the other kingdoms and their kingdom is seem and sits within that world, it also builds on the characters a little more. And then there is Val who just runs away with every scene he is in to create standout moments. But it still has the continuing issue of Pride herself. It is the simple fact that our MC has been incarnated into the role of Pride, into an otome game that she used to play, that she is not actually Pride herself from that game, and yet can not recognise that she is a totally different person to Pride from the game, that she thinks she will one day carry out all the terrible acts of Game Pride, that she is responsible for the terrible acts of Game Pride, and views everything with that light. Normally, a sensible Villainess character would incarnate, recognise the situation they are in, and then do everything the can to avoid the doom-flags and change their fate using the knowledge they have of the otome game world. Pride has been changing events, she acts differently to Game Pride because she is a different person inside, people view her differently, she recognises that she can change events, she's recognised that she's changed peoples fates, and yet she can't recognise that she is not the same Pride from the Game, and that she can reach a different ending. At some point she's going to recognise she's not Game Pride, right? Every not and then it seems like she might actually figure it out, that she might be aware that she is not the same person and yet, too often she flips back to the mindset that she is actually this evil villainess who will do terrible things and so her life is inconsequential as she deserves to meet her doom. Yes this is a negative sounding review, the reality is Season 2 is a mixed bag, it does things well, it also does things poorly, but it doesn't really do quite enough.
