Too childish for me... Baokemeng Qiyu Shatanjie is one of those short films that makes it very clear who its target audience is. From the first few minutes, it's evident that the production was made with very young children in mind, probably in the 3 to 6 year old range. The premise is simple: to present a light, colorful adventure full of cute moments involving Pokémon, without any concern for developing a more elaborate narrative. And there's nothing wrong with that. The problem is that, for someone who has followed the franchise for many years, the experience ends up being quite limited. The story is extremely basic, conflicts are practically nonexistent, and everything seems constructed to hold the attention of children who are having their first contact with this type of animation. Visually, the short film fulfills its purpose. The animation is colorful, the characters are expressive, and the design strongly relies on the cuteness factor to win over its audience. It's easy to imagine a child having fun watching it, precisely because everything was designed to be simple, accessible, and pleasing to the eye. On the other hand, for older fans of the franchise, there's very little to enjoy. Unlike other Pokémon productions that manage to balance child-friendly appeal with elements that also please older viewers, here the balance is completely tilted towards the childish side. There's no humor that works for all ages, no memorable moments, and not even any interesting facts to justify recommending it to those who have been following the series for a long time. During the screening, I had the feeling of watching something aimed exclusively at an audience that is still learning to recognize characters and follow simple stories. As children's entertainment, it probably works. As content for veteran fans, however, it ends up being forgettable. In the end, it all depends on expectations. If the intention is to introduce Pokémon to a young child, perhaps the short film fulfills that function well. But for those who already know the franchise and are looking for something minimally interesting or memorable, they will hardly find reasons to watch it here. It's a harmless production, but also completely disposable for a large part of the audience. Rating: 4/10. Nota: 4/10.
