Kusunoki's Garden of Gods

Started out alright but just ended up all over the place and blah. At first I was invested in Minato and all the gods and changes going on in the garden, but soon enough Minato and Yamagami kinda stopped being characters and became plot walls that plot things bounced off of. Then the exorcists and Harima became a bit interesting with them discovering Minato's exorcism slips, but they too fell into predictable patterns. I don't even see how things really changed for them after contracting with Minato. The different gods stopped being interesting since they'd just pop in, do a lil spiel, then not a lot would change after -- not about the garden, the dynamics, the characters, nothin. I have no idea why I stuck with this boring heap of a voice over'd slideshow to the end. I wouldn't recommend this to any anime fan. If you're looking for a fun slice of life from this season, I think Kujima Utaeba Ie Hororo was much better.

This is an anime about good vibes. A slow-life fantasy in a modern setting about a garden teeming with gods. Though the animation is pretty standard, that opening sequence was animated well, at a level higher than the rest of the content. Still, this is not an action anime, but a healing anime, and I watch it weekly for that reason. The rest of the animation is at a decent and serviceable level. The story is definition of slow life, usually a complete story in one episode. It was mostly episodic, save for the two-part finale. There is an overarching arc, mostly about the main character developing abilities he received from the gods as blessings. There's a recurring villain duo, but really for unintentional comic relief. A trigger warning for those who don't like pushover main characters. Kusunoki has the traits of one, but it is tolerable. This is effectively a watchable anime that has built a niche for itself that separates it from the big guns of Spring 2026. That way, it allowed it to thrive at a time slot later in the week after you have watched the returning shows like Tensura, Re:Zero, and the rest. It is the perfect show to watch on Sunday winding down.

I usually love slice of life, wholesome, lukewarm stories. So during the first few episodes I thought this would be a great anime. But I feel like the creators had an initial idea for the "vibes" but no idea for a story. Every episode they keep adding "conflicts" with no real depth that resolve themselves in an instant. I think if they kept to the wholesome vibes of him helping the gods with random errands it would had been more interesting then him "fighting off" evil spirits that make people feel a little bit down. I mean... are the gods really that important if the worse thing evil spirits can do is give someone a bad knee? The stakes for the conflicts could not be any lower and it shows. So why have them at all? The best part of the anime are the interactions between the protagonist and the gods. It is just a pity they stopped doing that halfway through the season to instead manufacture meaningless conflicts. And it's not like there's any action in fighting off the spirits. They are resolved by lifting a piece of paper or by raising a hand and blowing a gust of wind. They really picked the wrong lane with this one. I am only giving it a mixed feelings because the gods are very charming.

It's neither the most interesting story nor is the animation quality very good (honestly, some of the scenes were a bit awkward in terms of how the flow... I *think* it's the screenwriting, but I'm not super familiar with the terms). However the appeal was more in relatively calm slice of life factor, and *that* it did quite well. Overall I found it quite pleasant to watch, and I'll be looking forward to a season two. Go into it with the expectation that it's 'mid, but safe, calm, and generally pleasant" and you'll neither be surprised nor disappointed. Note for those who are interested: Thus far there is no indication of romance of any sort. (though Yamagami and another Deity *do* seem like a separated elderly couple, the way they bicker). Warning: Don't expect much lore beyond vague circumstantial implications of certain relationships, which probably make sense with thorough knowledge of the associated myths and folklore. Said knowledge is *not* necessary to enjoy it, however.

This is a chill anime which anyone can watch while eating some yummy snacks . I know most of people gonna ignore this because of new studio and unpopular theme but trust me this is a banger at least for people who loves mythology , heavily interested in Shinto and Japanese cuisine . Our mc is a special guy who got some spiritual power through strong genetics . What makes him special is his calm and selfless nature . He respects nature and gods which allowed him to create a garden of kami . Overall story isn't great in terms of quality and religious references but the daily life which our mc spends is worth to watch 100 % . Buying new snacks and spending time with his god friends . I won't mind seeing a another season .

this a slice of life story that heavy into Shinto mythology following Minato that becoming the caretaker of a distant relative retirement property a nice one bedroom Japanese house at the base of a mountain. unknown to Minato the house is thick with miasma from evils spirit that eh can't see like the majority of the population but his handing writing turn and piece of paper into a powerful talisman that exorcise the miasma and evil spirit at the cost of the ink disappearing and by happenstance the direction to the house Minato write out is enough to free a mountain god known as Yamagami and as Minato can see good spirits a relationship between Yamagami and him and later many other gods, sprits and the like start Minato an average main character although thanks to his grandfather that could see both good and bad sprit Minato has a health respect for gods and spirits the anime done by a new studio Juvenge and this is their first anime project and it art style similar but lesser than Cloverwork, the animation also subpar to a Cloverwork but equal to silver Link or A-1 Pictures the voice acting was good the person that did the minor character Utsugi was great (no English dub as of time of writing review) if you look for a slice of life lower drama series as their is some fighting and one or two darker episode give this one a try as for similar anime the ancient magus bride, restaurant to another world or Flying witch would be similar

I didn't think that I would like this anime but it was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the succinct story, it tying everything together well, and the little humor that they sprinkle in. I wish there was a little bit more that happens with all of the deities that show up but they do a pretty good job of including them into the scenes. I also wish that this all powerful mountain god didn't lose his power/form by performing one action. Similarly, I do wish they explored the "you won't be human anymore if you continue" line but I suppose it wasn't necessary to do so. The animation style is a little slow (for lack of better terms) so it feels like a "Saturday morning cartoon" type of anime than anything else but if that doesn't detract you then I think you'd enjoy this. The threat in the show is pretty constant and just about each episode we see more and more how to deal with the evil spirits and how all of the deities help the MC. If I didn't know any better though I would think that this anime is just an advertisement for Japanese food and sweets LOL. All in all a decent anime that is a chill watch.
