A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even: How I Crushed My Homeland with My Mighty Grimoires

Possibly one of the worst things I've watched so far. Basically it's just a power fantasy. Everything in this, just revolves around the girl's revenge, which wouldn't be a bad thing. Hell, original GoW was all about revenge, but this shit was just done SO HORRIBLY! That it just felt like it was something a 10 year old girl would write after being forced to do CHORES. The characters just felt so insanely basic that it was almost impossible to even hate them? I didn't even like them or hate them, they genuinely had nothing going for them. Except the MC who was just an edgelord but female and don't even get me started on the antagonists. The villains seemed as if they were just made for the "hero" to look cool. Everything about this was unrealistic, unfulfilling and BORING. I genuinely felt like skipping every scene because of how loooong it was. It had SOME potential at the start but its so linear that my hopes were quickly diminished. And the way it just tried to be dark? while trying to main the cutesy shit, Nah. Just horrible to watch. Only thing saving this whole rubbish is the pretty alright animation. MC rating: 2/10 side character ratings: 1/10 animation: 5/10 story overall: 2/10 Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Absolutely nothing memorable.

Like it or hate it this is the best villainess show this season (Inept Villainess does not count as it more of a drama than villainess), and unlike many villainess shows this one really does not holds back when the revenge is agaisnt everyone. Before I give review I must note that the realistic grade for this anime should be higher than what it has on MAL, but many were not able to deal with high morality issues that main female lead is willing to go over and as a result many gave it bad grades without even finishing the show. Animation and music: nothing special. Animation is not superb but it is not bad either, during some of the fighting scenes it can be nice and it is not shy is gore department either. Music is barely noticeable, it is doing it's job but barely. Overall - industry standard, nothing that was not seen before. It is doing it's job at presentation and that's about it. Characters: now, Elisabeth is main female lead for this show and the main reason it is interesting at all. She is very complex character, on one hand she will offer hand and treat you better than most CEO's today are treating their workers. But if you get on her bad side or hurt someone who is dear to her... Oh boy... your entire city will end up like Hiroshima (as in hundreds of thousands civilians killed) and just like Americans today she will not only not be sorry but be proud of that achievement. To be fair, I read manga but not LN and I have no idea in which direction it will take but I could tell early on that this entire thing is taking it's toll on her and in the end it will not end well for her. I predict that she will end up like Lelouch, but we will see if future me will be right or wrong. Other characters... are unfortunately bland when compared to Elisabeth - with the exception of Tida. On her side you have Mireille (her maid), Lunoa (her successor and student) and Misha (brought slave assistant) who make the core of people closest to her. They are only there to act as a support for Elisabeth and learn from her. They do not offer any second opinion to her revenge plans, they support her 100% in everything she does. The opposition is even worse, it is either incompetent Crown Prince or corrupt nobles who all laugh when Elisabeth was sent to dungeon. Only exception is Roselia (who is my favorite character in this story), who is strong and intelligent noble women that s**ts on crown prince every opportunity she gets. After Elisabeth is gone she is the only one that keeps the Kingdom together. Shame that she is the only one with 2 brain cells in entire county. On the neutral side you have Tida, who is the second reason to watch this show. Imagine a craazy nun that sins as much as she saves. And if you are heretic or brigand or just plain evil - she will offer you salvation by sending you directly to the Lord to cast His judgment on you. She barely appears in this show and show is following LN's which means that her moment of glory is left for season 2. Overall - Elisabeth is the one character you watch this show for, the rest are barely noticeable at all. Except Tida, she is awesome. Story: story is hit or miss as well. Elisabeth is disgraced and thrown into dungeon by people to whom she dedicated her life to. So she took that really personally and will not stop now until entire country burns. Issue with anime is that the story starts slowly, which may bore many beofre it get's to the good part. Moral issues in this story is also something that many have issues with, a certain event in episode 6 lit the fire among watchers - as it did with LN/manga community as well. This will give you some idea what to expect, and it did show the worst in people as you might have expected if you read even 1/10th of the comments on MAL for said episode. Beside that the story is mostly about Elisabeth setting up her new economic empire in the Empire and slowly getting her revenge, bit by bit. The last episode threw a glimpse at her actually carrying the burden of her deeds that will eventually get up to her, which was somewhat covered in manga in parts not showed in anime (I did not read the LN's so I have no idea how much of that is represented here). The issue with story is not just the slow pace toward her revenge but also the sheer incompetence of the Kingdom side. Elisabeth has no real threat to her, she is OP character who is slowly taking her time. Will this continue to work later on or not remains to be seen in future releases. Overall - the story is very slow at the start and it throws some very heavy stuff at audience later on, but it does that in a way that does not feel fully enjoyable or justified as some aspects of it are not yet well developed as they could be. Overall grade: 10 from me, I quite enjoyed it despite it's shortcomings. But realistically this show is a solid 7 to 7.5. What it really goes for it is Elisabeth as a character and a shock value in certain scenes when she works toward her revenge. But sadly, the story is slow and some things could have been handled better. If you love villainess and revenge anime this is an easy recommendation from me. If season 2 is ever release I will watch it for sure.

Story I really like the core concept of this anime, but the progression and character behaviors are so incredibly unnatural that it is genuinely sad to watch. First of all, the cast is strictly divided into two categories: 99.9% of the characters are single-digit IQ NPCs, while Elizabeth, Roselia, and maybe one other person are the only ones capable of actually thinking, planning, or doing anything. The King, the Prince, and the rest of the supporting cast are lazily written just to force the plot forward without an ounce of logic. Furthermore, our MC Elizabeth essentially has two completely disconnected personalities. One moment she is genuinely caring and good, and the next she is purely evil and wants to slaughter everyone; there is simply no natural transition to explain these jarring 180-degree switches. I am not sure if this is how the original light novel was written, but the tragic pacing of the anime certainly doesn't help. Personally, I would have loved to see actual political intrigue—watching a falling kingdom panic as the King and his staff desperately try to save it—instead of watching Sylvia and the Prince goof off and drink for the 50th time. There is so much more I could criticize, but there is really no point anymore. Visuals The visual production—including the animation, special effects, and background scenery—is strictly mediocre. There are a few decent-looking scenes here and there, but it never reaches a level of artistic quality that makes you want to pause the show or rewind to watch a moment again. It is completely forgettable. Conclusion Is it worth watching? Before I started breaking this show down, I wanted to give it a "mixed feelings" verdict. However, after actually analyzing the plot, I cannot give this anything other than a hard "not recommended." The show is written in an incredibly lazy way with barely any underlying logic. It is a decent idea ruined by a truly tragic execution.

Well this was disappointing. Look, I’m all for a dark revenge story and seeing women get back at scummy men who’ve done them wrong; but when you just start indiscriminately killing innocent civilians to get back at people who wronged you.. you lose me. I really wanted to like this show, it wasn’t a great story to start with, but it was passable. Ellie is pretty, badass and a great businesswoman who wanted to use her business to get back at the kingdom who wrongfully imprisoned her after she did ALL the work of running it. I’m totally fine with taking action against the political and economic leadership of said country, but the sort of stuff Ellie gets up to in this show just feels like edge for the sake of edge and I can’t get with that at all. Again, I like dark revenge stories, but there needs to be some tonal consistency. You can’t go from wholesome slice of life stuff, to killing kids and innocent family members and then back to building your business up?? Like as an audience, we just can’t bring ourselves to care about you again after you’ve done something like that and it goes against the established tone of the story anyway so people are in this for one thing and end up getting another. This show was just all over the place for me and never knew what it wanted to be. Ellie as a character is a truly evil POS, sorry. Yea, at first I thought she was badass and cunning, but imo she’s worse than the villains in the story because she knows full well these people are directly involved in her revenge and chooses to involve them anyway for her own selfish plans. It’s the same stuff the prince would do that she’d want revenge on him for, but it’s cool when she does it? I guess bro. Hard to really like a show when you hate the lead. Shame because she had a lot of potential. Surprisingly, the animation actually goes kinda hard in some of the action sequences here and the direction is decent, voice acting is solid, nothing to write home about otherwise. Really not even going to waste too much time going over this one, but I had to warn people before they consider watching this, just don’t, watch an actually narrative consistent dark fantasy revenge story that doesn’t have a deplorable MC, or if they’re deplorable, at least make it make sense. Livid Lady gets 5 out of 10.

I came for the revenge, I stayed for the soap The promise of revenge attracted me, too many villainess series don't have an actual villainess at the helm, they are falsely accused and then go off to lead a better life elsewhere, or they simply seek to avoid their doom flags knowing the impending future events. Here however we have our falsely accused villainess who has been keeping the Kingdom running for years now, and is still expected to do so, has had enough. So she leaves and seeks to plot the downfall of the Kingdom and of those who have treated her so unfairly. And then she goes and sells soap So the merchant stuff has a use, it is there so she can get herself a foothold in the Empire and establish a powerbase, the first couple of episodes that focus on this are good as it shows her ruthlessness in business and how she is willing to plan things out, and manipulate events to her advantage. It takes a lot of time for her to start to move towards revenge, it is only when fate seems to drop an opportunity on her lap that she actually gets a chance at revenge, and if it wasn't for that, was she actually going to do anything on her own? And then there is the matter of her revenge, because there is an odd juxtaposition between the cold ruthlessness of her revenge, and the kind person she is towards so many others, and yet it doesn't try to square that circle. The actions she's taken you don't just walk away from unblemished by them, they would leave a mark on her psyche, she should be changed as a person. And it's not like the series is unaware of this, it is even mentioned as a warning by another character, but mentioning that this could happen, and actually showing her be slightly affected by it all are two different things entirely. And talking of odd juxtapositions, the OP is something that just feels out of place, for me the vibe is just wrong There are great ideas, great moments, but also so many times when it falls short or just coasts along, the end result is a bit messy. You can see the makings of greatness here, but the poor execution is also something that can be clearly seen, so how you come down on the fence will depend on individual experience, a case can be made for both sides. It is easy to say that this is a great series, it is easy to also say it is a bad series. For me the truth is somewhere in the middle, it contains both of those elements, so that makes it neither good nor bad in the end It was entertaining but disappointing, I am hoping for better with Season 2

Woa to be completely honest, the protagonist of this anime caught me off guard in the best way possible. What I love the most is a main character who is not naive and gets straight to business. This show is vastly different from your typical, villainess anime. When it comes to a revenge story, morality is irrelevant as long as the main character's actions remain highly entertaining for us, the audience of a fictional piece. It doesn't matter how brutal, cunning, or villainous the revenge gets, as long as it is well-written, I am all for it. A. The Things I Praise: 1. Elizabeth Leiston I absolutely adore her personality. She is pretty and cute, exceptionally intelligent, cunning, and completely devoid of any naivety. What I love most about her is that when it comes to revenge, she gets straight to business without holding back or putting on a facade of self-righteous morality. Unlike many other protagonists who hesitate or suddenly find redemption halfway through, Elizabeth stays true to her path, making her an incredibly entertaining main character to watch. Furthermore, she is also highly capable in combat and can fight incredibly well on her own. I also highly appreciate her resolve to punish both the nobility and the common citizens who betrayed her. In this story, the citizens are just as guilty because of their "ignorance", if they are easily manipulated by mere rumors, then they deserve to face destruction. Here are some of her specific actions that I thoroughly enjoyed: • Zero mercy for bandits: She couldn't care less about their backstories. To her, a bandit is a bandit, and there are no excuses. • Punishing the hypocritical soldier: The way she dealt with a soldier who tried to play the repentance card, despite having just looted a village, murdered citizens, and done "you know what", was brilliant. • Humiliating Robert Arty: Her punishment for the fickle knight, Robert Arty, was spot on. He is a pathetic character who didn't even know his own purpose in life. He isn't inherently evil, just profoundly foolish. To me, Elizabeth is someone who might not even realize she has stepped into complete villainy for the sake of her revenge, but that is exactly what makes her so charming. 2. Tida I absolutely adore her as well. She is cheerful, a heavy drinker, and a gambler, despite technically being a nun-in-training. She is incredibly cute too, you know! I especially loved her behavior when she was killing the bandits, it instantly reminded me of the classic meme: "May God forgive you, but I won't." Her chaotic contrast makes her such a fun addition to the cast, and honestly, she needs more screentime. Honorable Mention: Barl I praise this character because out of all of Elizabeth's followers, he is the only one brave enough, even if not directly confronting her, to question her path. He internalizes the realization that her quest for vengeance is starting to make her look like a true villain, someone who wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice innocent lives just to get even. On a side note, his character design hilariously reminds me of Brain Unglaus from Overlord. B. The Things I Criticize: 1. Rushed Pacing on Elizabeth's Backstory Unfortunately, the setup for why Elizabeth Leiston wants revenge is crammed into just the first episode and shown only through brief flashes. Granted, the anime does show how much of a burden her father, Sieg Leiston, as well as King Bulat Haldoria and his idiot son Friede Haldoria truly are. They, along with the gold digger Sylvia "Sylvie" Lockit, are clearly depicted as foolish, useless pests and nothing but dragged Elizabeth down. However, for me, the early episodes still didn't show enough of this toxic dynamic. If the pacing had been slower, perhaps taking two or three episodes to fully flesh out her past, her enemy incompetence, and her enemy greed, the audience would have cared significantly more about her revenge plot. Because everything happens so quickly, the emotional weight doesn't fully hit the viewer. While their stupidity and her suffering were technically shown, it still felt insufficient. It needed more depth and screen time so that we could truly sympathize with Elizabeth before her dark turn. 2. Generic and Boring Antagonists Personally, almost all of Elizabeth's enemies and targets of revenge feel incredibly generic and boring. From her father Sieg Leiston, King Bulat Haldoria and his idiot son Friede Haldoria, the gold digger Sylvia "Sylvie" Lockit, to the fickle knight Robert Arty, Darc Hokins, and others, they all feel like they were deliberately written to be mind-numbingly foolish. They completely lack character depth, and their motives and convictions are so cliché that they become utterly forgettable because of how boring they are. The only exception to this is Roselia Fadgal. As of the current story, she is neither evil, stupid, nor an idiot like the rest of Elizabeth's adversaries. She is the only competent person in the entire kingdom who actually has the guts to openly insult that useless prince. The narrative clearly hints that she is the only one capable of putting up a real fight against Elizabeth. 3. Hollow and One-Dimensional Supporting Characters Most of the supporting cast feels incredibly hollow, acting as if they are "just there." Except for Tida and Barl, the rest of Elizabeth's companions and followers who aid in her revenge plot are completely one-dimensional or act merely as her "yes men." They lack any meaningful depth or interesting traits. Even her personal maid who has been with her since the very beginning, Mireille Katarina, suffers from the exact same fate and feels just as flat as the others. C. Conclusion: In conclusion, this story is a flawed but highly refreshing dark fantasy. It suffers from rushed pacing in its premiere and a roster of borderline-caricature antagonists who are frustratingly brainless. However, the anime completely redeems itself through its phenomenal protagonist. Elizabeth Leiston is the exact type of anti-hero the villainess subgenre desperately needed, ruthless, unapologetic, and immensely entertaining.

‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’ is an idiom that is adapted from a line in William Congreve’s play, The Mourning Bride (1697). The line from which it came is ‘Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.” Everyone complaining about this anime/manga/story really needs to read more books. This is not a new story nor a trope, this WILL happen to you if you FAFO. I love it! I hope they make a second season, women with power, pissed off is GOLD! Art: I love the art style and the costumes. I hope they get a bigger budget or make this a movie. Character dev: The characters are a bit shallow and I'm not the biggest fan of how the story waves off slavery like its just a thing... Realism: As far as anime goes, its as realistic as one punch man. I think people who understand how disrespect and bullying damage human psyche and how that person needs to focus agression before it consumes them as well, will love this anime. Those who see the world as black and white will hate this, because they have not gone through true struggle and don't get that the world is full of grey and red.

The appeal of this anime lies in its revenge theme. There’s something satisfying about watching a character who has been brought down choose to fight back and make those who wronged her face the consequences. Anger has a place in storytelling, and characters shouldn’t always have to forgive just to earn the audience’s approval. In my opinion, a villainess should act like a villain. A villainess who is constantly forced to be good is just nonsense hiding behind the word “morality.” If every desire for revenge is abandoned for the sake of being a good person, the villainess label becomes nothing more than decoration. The story promises a dangerous character, yet is afraid to let her make cruel, selfish, or morally questionable choices. Such a character still needs believable motives and consequences for her actions. That’s precisely what makes her compelling: we can understand her anger without agreeing with everything she does. For me, the strength of a villainess story lies in its willingness to explore the character’s darker side, including moments when her revenge makes the audience question how far she has gone.

If there is one thing, and just one, that this anime promises the viewer, it is revenge on the kingdom that used her solely for its own benefit, without the slighetest sign of gratitude. And unlike the usual "I was wrong" or "revenge is not good" tropes, she commits to her mission. The anime alternates between her revenge and her merchant life, almost like you're watching two different stories tossed together, somehow mirroring her personality. You don't have to be a psychologist to understand that she has some issues. Her character has only two modes: merchant and vengeful, which makes her feel pretty shallow overall, especially compared to other villainesses. Honestly, the scariest part about her is how easily she switched from "let's do everything for the kingdom" to "let's destroy it". From the beginning, you understand that everything is going according to her plan, so the ending feels emotionless despite the story's attempt to create suspense. The king seems pretty decent, but on the other hand, his son, the crown prince, is literally the epitome of stupidity. The only characters who seem to have a good head on their sholders are Sir Lucas and Roselia, while the former seems to know better than to stick his nose where it doesn't belong. Overall, it may be enjoyable to watch, but it's not something recommendable compared to other anime in the "villainess" subgenre.

I honestly like this anime, its a breath of fresh air because we usually get a female MC who get betrayed and basically ends up forgiving everyone who wrong her, but not this she takes revenge and its the best way possible. For those who say its not good clearly have double standards. If MC was a man they'd be praising it saying everyone deserved it. It's not predictable and thats what I liked about this as at first I thought she would go to the empire and fall in love with the prince from the empire (if they had one.

Surprisingly good, wasn’t expecting much and just wanted something easy to watch but was pleasantly surprised. First time I’ve seen a kingdom so thoroughly dismantled by someone who they should’ve appreciated, the mc is pretty much 2 steps ahead of her adversaries at every turn which sure isn’t super interesting but I appreciate that they go all in on her being dead set on revenge. Doesn’t shy away from the violence and the mental toll it will have on the mc in the future and sets up nicely for a 2nd season, most side characters around the mc are pretty bland but the pace is good enough to make up for it as the mc consistently is working on setting up her revenge while also strengthening her own standing.

This show has one big attraction: the protagonist is *actually* a villainess. She's very willing to kill and even torture people who get in her way. It's certainly refreshing to see that. Everything else about this show is either average or below average. It's the standard villainess revenge flick setup: A Mary Sue has a jerk fiance and gets dumped for some new slag. This show has an issue in that it doesn't really give a good reason why the MC decides the entire kingdom (including the common folk) deserve to be part of her revenge. We're told there are some rumors offscreen, but that hardly feels sufficient. I've almost never seen revenge arcs done well in anime. Usually the target is cartoonishly evil or nasty in an attempt to justify it, like they'd very aggressively beat puppies or slaves or women, and that's basically what they do with the fiance here. But then there are minor characters that show genuine repentance for the mess that's been made but she kills them anyways. Again, I enjoy that this is a show where the MC is actually committed to revenge, but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it was more natural and not just a result of the author obsessing about subverting the usual forgiveness tropes such that they made the MC a disjointed psycho. Beyond that, the execution of this show is just generally mediocre. Scenes plod along and much of the supporting cast are just stock tropes. Having a competent MC is nice and this is one of the few villainess anime that doesn't go deep into shoujo romance stuff, which I appreciate. But they ended up picking the most girly business to focus on -- scented soap, perfume, lipstick, etc. that is quite boring. Overall, this series has some interesting bits like Robert's brainwashing that was an 7 or 8/10, and then the rest of the show is just a 4/10. Also, the revenge is very much unresolved at the end of S1, and who knows if this will ever get a S2.

story: 8/10 this is just Saihito but if you removed the love interest then replaced religion feud with politics and economics, basically it's a revenge story featuring a strong independent girlboss MC. it's a good thing it doesn't feature any love interest, which made it feel unique with a "breath of fresh air" when compared to other villainess stories following the same generic formula. honestly, there's been quite a lot of villainess stories that feature amazing FMCs with great alluring characteristics, amazing intellect, and overarching influence just to waste it on some boring generic guy whose only purpose is to woo the FMC; which Livid Lady didn't do, which is what makes it great. what i like about a story is when i genuinely can't predict what's gonna happen next, and it's what Livid Lady was able to achieve. sure, it seems ridiculous at times, but it's what makes it good. it's a fictional story after all, so it doesn't need to be taken seriously from a realistically practical standpoint, like what happened in ep 8. the pacing is great and wastes no time on irrelevant information. it's a power fantasy plus a revenge story meant for those who enjoy these kinds of stories. it's also something gore lovers would love, like the amount of blood featured in this series is quite amazing, like almost at the level of elfen lied amazing. characters: 8/10 Elizabeth Leiston's character design might seem basic, but her personality solves that gap well. the way she acts in her own story made me feel something different, something i haven't felt before towards any character. she made me tense, on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what she'll do next. every time she gives a speech towards her enemies, she made me skip a beat. the way she says anything out of spite and her complete disregard for innocents caught in her path are true characteristics of what every villainess archetype character should have. Ellie is not a larp villainess but a completely real and utterly evil villainess. aside from Ellie, there isn't much to go around. there's Sylvia, who, unlike Saihito's antagonist, doesn't really do much and only serves to sit pretty. Friede serves his purpose well by being as unlikeable an antagonist as possible, which is exactly what antagonists on shows like these should have. then there's Mireille, who made Ellie start her revenge in the first place. i can't remember anything about her besides being the reason behind the revenge. her character feels hollow, also especially with the other two helpers whom Ellie adopted, Lunoa and Misha, whose only purpose is to help Ellie. animation: 5/10 honestly, the weakest link among the other criteria. it generally feels static. the character designs feel lackluster when compared to their source material, and it's boring most of the time. the fight scenes aren't great either, it feels like you're watching a powerpoint presentation. soundtrack: 4/10 the OP and ED don't have much going for them. they feel generic, and they're not the kind of music i'll be listening to anytime soon. there are some good parts though. the ED features Ellie wearing lingerie doing suggestive poses, but other than that, it's pretty mid. enjoyment: 10/10 i just like Ellie overall: floor[(8+8+5+4+10)/5] = 7
