Sekai Saikyou no Kouei: Meikyuukoku no Shinjin Tansakusha
世界最強の後衛 ~迷宮国の新人探索者~
The World's Strongest Rearguard
BATTLESTAR999
This could have been a great isekai from the premise established in the first episode. Being isekai'ed into a world that has an established hierarchy with full knowledge that people who enter the guild are recently reincarnated. There could have been exciting plot elements like trying to figure out why this world exists or why it so readily accepts that people will be randomly reincarnated here. But instead it is harem trash. In what I assume is an attempt to make the MC interesting he never changes out of his suit, which instead just makes him feel constantly out of place in scenes when he is surrounded by fantasy adventurers. The harem isn't even interesting as it is immediately established that the women around him aren't drawn to him because he is interesting or unique or helpful instead they are simply attracted to him because he has a passive skill that forces them to if they are in a party. And this just leads to weird moment where the women sexually harass him in his sleep just so the animators can include women moaning in the show. I hate that you can't even try to ignore the harem because at ANY decision our MC has to make, he will turn to the group and be like "what do you all think?" and this causes a 5 minute scene where every character says some form of "OMG MC you are the best and everything you say and do is always the best choice." Trying to enjoy the show while ignoring the harem aspect will also leave you disappointed. In a world where people are reincarnated and upon arrival you can choose ANY job at all you would think being a defensive or support character wouldn't be a big deal. But somehow no one in this world has ever chose to be something like a paladin, knight or shield bearer, and so because of this our MC can do basically anything at all. Magically negate any and all damage to a party member, sure. Magically buff the power of your party allowing them to ignore the defense stats of monsters, sure. Magically defeat monsters that are established in the lore as killing machines to newbies, sure he does that on his first day. Magically heal a fatal stab wound to the stomach, sure why not. Overall, going into this with no knowledge I was initially excited but by episode 3 quickly realized this was another show for the trash pile.

Despite how low the score is for this show, it is not lesser to any of the usual isekai harem trash we get every simulcast and I happen to like isekai trash! If you take it for what it is, rather that what it is not, then it's perfectly adequate It's one of those anime that you will probably forget you ever watched in a year's time, but one that you actually did enjoy at the time you were watching it If you like isekai slop and harems like I do, then pop an episode on when you're eating lunch or dinner and just enjoy for what it is

The World's Strongest Rearguard is an average harem / isekai anime, it's the quintessential trash isekai where you can switch off your brain, relax and just have mindless fun watching it. It is so incredibly basic that it is almost admirable, it took took the basic tropes, the basic core of an isekai and threw away the rest. We have the isekai world with a guild, dungeons and all the essentials for adventurers. We have our MC that gathers up his party of women, we even have a swimsuit episode. It's all there, all the tropes. But it got rid of things that it thought were unnecessary, like plot and worldbuilding, anything that distracts and gets in the way of our characters just going off and having adventures or fun together. There are a couple of subplots that kind of exist but it doesn't dwell on them and most of the time they are forgotten about. If you watch enough isekai then you know how these things are supposed to look and go, there is this look to an isekai, the generic isekai city complete with resident noble, and the generic isekai plotlines. It's amazing how it can dispense with so much of that. But the reality is that it can just be summed up as the party goes of on adventures, characters do their thing, and isekai shenanigans happen. You really wouldn't think it would work, but it does. However as an anime it is so basic, so generic and bare bones I have to recognise it as just being average and score it as such. My only criticism is that the writing is lacking, but when everything else is so stripped away you have to ask if it is by design, and I can't hold that against this when it is able to maintain it's pacing. But in terms of enjoyment, this is pure isekai trash at its finest and for me that makes it an absolute guilty pleasure. It is anime like this why I love isekai trash, it moves at a good pace, it doesn't stop, it doesn't seek to overcomplicate things or trip over itself with boring plotlines, needless exposition dumps or trying too hard. It knows what it is, it doesn't take itself seriously and it just wants to have fun.

The core issue with this Anime is that it is painfully boring after the first 2 episodes. I couldn't get past the 3rd episode before feeling like time itself is dragging on. Its the opposite feeling you get on a decent show like Tensura or OPM, where time literally flies. The only saving grace for this show is that its not offensive to watch. Its just such a drag that you will feel like dropping it, unlike say "A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even" which is offensively bad, because the plot is so forced and the character is despicable. This show is just the middest-mid bottom tier ISEKAI that you can come across. It introduces nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing in the way of visuals and nothing in the way of dialogue either. Its the Toyota Tercel of Anime.

This anime is painfully average. Nothing really stands out: the animation is mediocre, the characters are mediocre, the story is mediocre, and as for character development… was there even any? The premise, however, is actually pretty good. Being reincarnated into a world filled with labyrinths (dungeons) doesn’t sound bad at all. Everyone who explores them is a reincarnated person, so you get dungeon crawling, leveling up, collecting gear, and all the usual stuff that comes with it. There’s a lot of potential here. Unfortunately, it ends up feeling more like an older man’s fantasy about having a harem of young girls. I wouldn’t say it’s outright bad, but I simply expected more from it. It’s basically Arafou Otoko no Isekai Tsuuhan, just a little worse.

This isn't a review, but rather a comment. I have nothing to add to the existing reviews, but something compelled me to write this: the events from the first to the sixth episode are strikingly similar—or perhaps even completely copied—from another anime in the same genre. I can't recall the name of that other anime, but I am absolutely certain about the resemblance. If anyone reading this shares my impression or knows the name of that other anime, please let me know. Is the story unique? If it was predictable, did you enjoy it anyway because you like this genre/set-up? It isn't unique—it's essentially a copy-paste job of most anime in this genre—but I’m a huge fan of isekai and reincarnation stories anyway, so you’ll find that I’ve watched and finished most titles featuring these themes.
