Initially I wanted to review Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works disregarding the visual novel it was based on. But that is not wise, because Deen made an adaptation targeted at the fans of the original. If you haven’t read the novel, you probably won’t understand half of the things on screen. So in my review I’m assuming that you’re familiar with the source as I’ll keep in touch with it. Just be warned. Fate is probably the most successful franchise created by Type-Moon, Japanese game company, and its author Nasu Kinoko-shi. For most people Fate/stay night anime acted as introduction to bizarre magical realm of Nasuverse, the world of Nasu-shi’s writings, and it laid the foundation of Type-Moon’s international fame as well as other works by Nasu-shi became widely known beyond Japan. Thereby the UBW film was highly awaited here. Personally I think that UBW is the best route of the original novel. It has strong plot, which deals with the mystery of Archer’s identity and contains nice turnarounds and memorable scenes. The first route, Fate, which became the basis for TV series, was predictable and pretty much boring, and Heaven’s Feel, while having some advantages, was just… twisted, so having film based solely on UBW is surely tasty. The characters, being the same old guys from Fate, are shown from other angles, which is interesting for some of them. The core cast of UBW consists of three characters. Emiya Shirō, the protagonist, whose wish to protect the weak is balancing on the edge of dementia, actually has to do something with it here. He directly faces the consequences of his behaviour and has to fight to protect his ideals. In UBW Emiya is still not as reasonable and level-headed as in HF, but more interesting character, then in Fate. The second one is Archer, and it is the most curious case. The whole thing we know about him from Fate is that he is some cynical mysterious anti-hero, so it is attractive to uncover his past, his motives for joining the Holy Grail War and his real identity. The last, but not the least central character is Tōsaka Rin. That’s subjective, but she is just my favourite female character of Fate/stay night, so it is nice for her to be in the highlight. Another little thing to point out about the characters is the presence of Lancer. This guy is sarcastic, but noble warrior, who sadly doesn’t have a lot of screen time, but most of the scenes with him are hilarious. His interaction with Emiya and Tōsaka and that event with Kotomine easily made Lancer one of my favourite characters ever. With all advantages of the original plot the film got a problem: it is rushed, and many of the background things not important for the story are left behind. But that is understandable, because it’s impossible to cram the whole UBW route into two hours film, and I think Deen has done all it can. Scenarists could try to adopt the plot by removing some of the main events, but obviously nothing good can came out of this. In fact, simplification is common problem for adaptations of Nasu-shi’s works. He has an amazing fantasy, and his stories have a lot of unique weird concepts, which are left unmentioned or unexplained in the anime adaptations. Tsukihime suffered greatly from it, and Fate/stay night TV series wasn’t untainted too. (I cannot say for sure about Kara no Kyōkai, because I still cannot find enough time to read the original, but I think it has its moments either.) So, in this film we got perfectly animated key events of UBW route. Regarding it as an addition for the visual novel, this film is a great thing to remind about good old time spent on reading the original, and there is nothing new or unexpected came out of the viewing, therefore I think it is 8 points worth.

After years of enjoying Ufotable’s Unlimited Blade Works and watching nearly the entire Fate series, I finally went back to watch Studio Deen’s version of UBW, and honestly, I’m left wondering what the point of it was. It barely qualifies as a proper movie; it feels more like a rushed recap than a legitimate adaptation. The pacing is a major issue: Trying to compress a story that Ufotable told over 24 episodes into under two hours just doesn’t work. The result is a chaotic, disjointed mess that skips over nearly every major plot point and focuses almost entirely on fight scenes. The early moments of the story, like Shirou summoning Saber and learning the Holy Grail War rules, were given three full episodes by Ufotable, but here they’re crammed into five minutes with barely any dialogue. Speaking of which, the dialogue is clunky and poorly written throughout. Side characters are barely present: Illya speaks less than ten lines, Rider only has one sentence, and I don’t recall Kuzuki saying anything at all. This makes Caster’s motivations feel random and confusing, especially for viewers unfamiliar with the original story. The movie’s attempt at foreshadowing the plot twist is painfully obvious, like it’s flashing a sign telling you “there’s a secret” multiple times before the actual reveal. Dialogue delivery is awkward, with Saber and Rin making bizarre vocalizations that feel more like something out of a parody or doujinshi than a serious adaptation. The pacing is also uneven with some scenes drag on unnecessarily, while others are rushed or skipped entirely. Characters jump in and out of fights with little explanation, and events are thrown at the viewer without any context. It’s as if the movie expects you to have watched the original Deen adaptation and makes no effort to help new viewers understand what’s happening. The final showdown and big reveal fall flat, especially when compared to the emotional and visual impact of Ufotable’s version. In the end, I really can’t recommend this movie unless you’re a die-hard Fate completionist like me. If you're new to the series, definitely watch the Ufotable adaptation first. Even with knowledge of Deen’s Fate/stay night, this movie is hard to follow. At best, it serves as a reminder of how fortunate we are that Ufotable remade UBW the way they did.

You know, after watching the series of the same name, I would never think it would continue or developed to be such a big franchise. However, the ending of the series didn’t quite satisfy some folks or that it went some confused and/or dazed (I was just confused some of the time in this show) but luckily after 3-4 years when the series ran in 2006, there was a movie adaptation coming to the fray in 2010 in Japan, but I didn’t know if it was one of those compilation movies where they just put scenes from the show and make it different somehow. Shirou Emiya finds himself an unwilling participant in a deadly competition where seven Mages summon heroic spirits as servants to duel each other to the death. They compete for the chance to make a wish from the Holy Grail, which has the power to grant any wish. Shiro is unskilled as a mage and knows nothing of the Holy Grail War, but he and his servant, Saber, enters into a temporary partnership with another Mage, Rin Tohsaka. However, problems arise between Shirou and Rin's servant, Archer, who seems to seriously despise him. You know what, I could go over how I feel about the characters and story of this show but I would be repeating myself from the series’ review. However, I will say that the story has a very darker tone, compared to the PG-13ish tamer nature of the series, cutting out some of the high school filler and anything with the two non-major characters and while it does a retelling of it, some characters who you expect to make it out alive in the series, without giving spoilers away, some of them got some fucked-up deaths and for some of the latter part of the movie, it’s centered around Shiro and Archer, as opposed to Saber, who still have a major role in this but more in the background. Also, you know Shiro still has ideals of him becoming a champion of justice, being a hero and all that while Archer, who’s been through it all, became cynical about it and feels the need to kill Shiro to remind him of that. Honestly, I’m with Archer on this, mainly because I still stand by the fact that Shiro is that noble jackass who has these traditional hero traits but when it comes to him going against opponents that are more stronger and powerful than him, he is still the hard-headed moron that doesn’t get it that he can easily die of that. Sure, you can say he may not be strong, but he has heart but you forget that you also need brains to fighting an opponent or uses their advantages against them, which Shiro did sort of used in the end. For the animation by Studio DEEN………this actually does resemble the animation in Fate/Zero but this is on a movie budget so of course, it’s going to look better than the series since that was made in 2006-07 and the movie in 2010 with the fighting animation more fluid, the brutal scenes feel more gripping as you watch it and maybe felt some scenes that involves a lot of blades, hence, Blade Works. The music has the mysterious and haunting tone that it was going for but I barely notice some of it as I watched it. The Sentai Filmworks dub with used the original (sort of) voice actors from the series, provided by Bang Zoom Entertainment and if you remember, I said, they used THREE DIFFERENT VOICE ACTRESSES for Saber and this is the second one voiced by Michelle Ruff and for her performance…..it was nothing outstanding. She did fine or close to Kate Higgins to an extent as Ruff always works her monotone voice in most anime characters and it was just a “meh” performance. The dub as a whole was more of a step up from the TV series, it was a 60% improvement over the TV series. FINAL VERDICT: The movie passes on levels that it took a darker tone in the franchise, making it more serious than what it was but alas, it still suffers from the same problems with the same characters. If I could say this, I would just watch the movie and just skip the show now that I have seen it and like many others say, some of the answers will be further explained in Fate/Zero.

So first i'll start off with saying that this is a good movie.anime for anybody (except horror-lovers) due to its suspensefulness, action, magic, mystery, and other cool stuff i won't spoil. I decided the story gets a 9 because the movie has tons of cool moments, the only reason why i took off one was cause there were moments where all the people did was talk about something that already happened and ur just sitting here being like "i get it, get on with the story" other than that it was perfect. The art and sound are my two favorite things, the vocals at the "theme" fit perfectly with the melody of the instruments and the instruments in the background in certain scenes convey the story without need of a screen. i don't understand japanese, and i watched it in japanesse with subtitles, but half the time i was off 5 feet away just listening to the music and in the end i was able to retell my friend the story perfectly. The characters are really cool, especially Shiro. He's the boy that was almost killed in the previous holy grail wars (watch fate zero) and was rescued by a man who later raised him as his own, and because this man saved him, Shiro wanted to save somebody, or more exactly, everybody. He knows he can't because *spoiler* and in the end he finds out many important things about himself and his family. The other characters aren't really as meaningful as Shiro, but some you might want to watch are Archer, Saber and Rin Theres tons of aciton and tons of meaning, overall i loved it! i recommend it to all!!!!

The visuals in the movie is exceptional athough not too great they certainly have touched it up since the release of Fate/Stay Night. As the movie is a lot of action and bloodshed their use of colours suited the scenes nicely. I would have liked it though if the tones of the colours varied more, I found that I kept seeing the same tones in places where it should have been a shade darker; especially night scenes. I actually liked the music for a change, especially the ending song by Sachi Tainaka. The music fit so well and it played an important role in getting you into the mood. At times it was used to build up heaps of suspense, and it really kept you entertained. It deserved a ranking of 8 because of how good the producers effectively used it, but with their achievements does come a downfall and thats the timing of the piece. At times it was either too late or too quick and it threw me off quite a bit. The plot is the best part of the movie, intricate, woven and delicately made. It does get extremely confusing at times and you will definitely have a hard time following all the different factions and the constant move of alliances and enemies. The plot does skip a whole lot and the story is then made to look like it was compacted, which in essence it was. Again to those who have watched Fate/Stay Night or played the game they most likely would not find any problems in understanding. Honestly I liked this storyline much more than the Fat/Stay Night storyline. I felt as if the ending of the Fate/Stay Night storyline did not do Saber any justice, whereas Unlimited Blade Works' ending was much more sweeter and more to my liking; I guess it's all up to preference. I love Type-moon and its characters. I find that they make extremely deep characters that have much more meaning than intended. I found all characters to be extremely unique and having their own sense of pride and in moral values. The character designs were exceptionally good, and all characters were given justice. Although I find Clamp to still be (in my books) one of the top designers type-moon is definitely up there. Some people who have played the actual Visual Novel have disagreed with me and i can see where they are coming from. When comparing a full blown game with an extremely shortened movie the differences become very clear. However for those who have played the game its a good way to get a jist of the plot before you begin.

I will write this as a non-gamer person, and someone who never played (nor will play) this game, so this comes from a no gamer anime fan. Being such I need to say that this anime was confuse and too rushed, and lucky me I saw the first series and talked with friends who played the game, so I could enjoy some of the show, but being aware that studios should be more attentive to viewers who might not be interested in games but would watch a given show by its quality, story and artwise. Artwise it was really good and you can enjoy it if only by it, but again be warned, if you never heard of the story, never played the game nor talked with someone who played it, nor saw the first adaptation, you will be at a loss on many parts, and you will feel the story rushed and with many gaps. Fans may flame me for saying these words but will not be able to say I am wrong on this. One thing is good though, Rin got better attention, which is good.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works its probably one of the best anime movies that i have ever seen. In my case, Im not a fan of Fate/stay night but the movie its something that it would be good to watch after people ends to watch the anime to get the story. Story 8/10 As the story its another way to tell you how the anime was , changes a lot of stuffs. The story its mainly concentrated in Shirou and Archer, they both have an important role in this movie. For those that didnt watched the anime, will be hard to understand at the begining. Art 10/10 The art is something that you can really notice very well comparing the anime, and not only even in the anime, even in most of them. Fights, situations when characters talks or stages its something that is not normal to see on an anime. Makes you want to take pics in most of that part of it. Sound 10/10 As Fate/stay night: Ultimated Blade Works its an anime of action, its important the sounds of the fights. At the time of the fights, every single move its able to hear it very clearful adding really good sound effects at important parts of them. Characters 9/10 Like the movie its another way to say how the anime was, wont be a big difference of characters, but will be in the roles that they play. The main charactes of the movie are Archer and Shirou, of course Shirou is the main guy of the anime, but in the movie takes a more important role and with Archer will show a big difference in his way to be. Others characters, for example, that were the mains in the anime, wont take an important role at all. Enjoyment 9/10 For those who are fans of Fate/stay night , really deservs to watch this movie, most of them (in my opinion) will enjoy it a lot. For those who didnt watch the anime but know at least of what it is about (the anime) , will like and will make them watch the anime, but for those that dont have any idea of what its about, maybe will be a bit hard to understand the concepts of the meanings of the movie and cause of that maybe the wont enjoy it at all. Overall 10/10 Fate stay/night: Unlimited Blade Works its a movie that most of the people have to watch . Although, amazed me that its way more bloody that there is a point that you think ''From where it comes all that blood? '' and a bit sadic than the anime. I have to say, that i recommend this movie, deservs to be watch

I've completed this movie without watched the series version, but i've watched fate/stay night 2006 before. In my opinion, this movie is totally great, their battle scene and plot is more better than 2006. But, i just can give them 8 from 10 because im kinda upset why gilgamesh is defeat when he fight with emiya's hero form, considering gilgamesh is the king of kings (and the oldest kings) and i thinks he will not defeat too easily with future hero. i will more understand if he loses to saber who the strongest king (as it happened on 2006 version ending). Im planned to watch their series version to got more information because this version is really short (if i don't watch the 2006 version before, im pretty sure i will confuse to understand the plot).

After reading the reviews I still couldnt find anything absolutely wrong with this movie. People complained that it was too reliant on the anime and game but it is a movie based on it so what else can you expect. STORY: The concept was really interesting. This movie was mainly centered around Archer and could be told also by the title of it "Unlimited blades work", which is Archer's power. People complained that there isnt much explanation but its a movie, they cant break down everything like an anime because it would be boring and a waste of time. The movie had great action scenes and the twist was great. I loved how it sums up the anime and really shows Archer's true power. This movie honestly wouldnt make sense and need explanations for people who NEVER seen the anime, played the game, or etc. ENJOYMENT: Off the bat, I put an 8 because the fights and deaths were pretty awesome and the animation was just fantastic. The powers some characters had was just epic and was shown amazingly. The beginning was cool but after that part might have been a bit boring but it hints off something important about the main character, Shiro, especially when it shows him fixing stuff( I cant really go into detail because that would just spoil it for those who knows nothing about fate/stay night.) ART: The art style was good and the animation was amazing. CHARACTERS: I really liked how each character was different and cool in their own way. Rin didnt stand out much in this movie but she honestly isnt that important in this (this is mainly about archer, and shiro). The servants were cool(im not sure how else to describe them) but certain ones of them stood out more and had super cool powers(especially the guy in the yellow, i forgot his name). I honestly dont get the super negative reviews about this but overall its pretty good.

This movie is a mess whether you've seen the original series or not. It starts out rushing to introduce multiple characters with fight after without any context. Each fight has many dramatic twists and turns but as an audience you're left wondering who you want to win or why the fight is happening anyway. Even the overall story has no history to tell you why anyone is fighting for the holy grail, which turns out to be an odd pile of goo. The only real positives are the general character designs and the slightly greater focus on Rin, who I always thought was more interesting than Shiro. Don't waste your time or money on this.

Watch the 2014 TV adaptation by studio Ufotable instead. This movie is intended as a companion feature to the 2006 TV anime Fate/Stay Night. Adapting Fate/Stay Night's second route [Unlimited Blade Works], this movie rushes through the story from start to finish. It cuts most of what is redundant from what was shown in the 2006 TV anime, flittering from one key moment to the next. It emphasizes its differences from the [Fate] route and is somehow able to maintain a coherent plotline, despite its runtime. This movie adapts the graveyard fight scene quite well, and the Archer storyline was also delivered faithfully. Thankfully, there aren't any spoilers for the third route [Heaven's Feel], which would have been surprising given how strained for time the movie is. This is actually a surprisingly good companion to the 2006 TV anime because several of the scenes missing from the [Unlimited Blade Works] route movie were inserted into the TV production. The visual novel Fate/Stay Night is officially available in English, as of August 7th, 2024, and is a good way to experience this story in a way other than the 2014 TV adaptation.

Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] is an intricate and engaging story that captivated audiences through its extended television series. As someone who revisits and reviews anime on MyAnimeList, it's evident that the attempt to distill this rich narrative into a single movie has resulted in a lackluster experience. With a rating of 3/10, the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Movie struggles to capture the essence of the source material and falls short of the series' brilliance. One of the fundamental issues with the movie is the overwhelming sense of cramming. In an attempt to fit what the 25-episode series painstakingly built over time into a mere hour and 20 minutes, the movie sacrifices the intricate character development, world-building, and emotional arcs that defined the series. The result is a disjointed narrative that fails to adequately convey the complexities of the Holy Grail War, the relationships between characters, and the philosophical underpinnings that make Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] so compelling. The decision to treat the movie as a recap of sorts seems more appropriate, as it does manage to touch upon the crucial plot points and pivotal moments. However, the movie's downfall lies in its attempt to be more than that. By striving to condense an epic tale into such a short runtime, it robs the story of the depth and emotional resonance that made the series a fan favorite. Viewers who are new to the franchise might find themselves struggling to connect with the characters and grasp the significance of the events unfolding on screen. Furthermore, the movie's timing in relation to the release of the series is a point of contention. While recap movies can be a way for fans to relive the key moments of a series, the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Movie falls short by releasing before the full series did. This disconnect creates confusion for newcomers and frustration for fans who were eagerly anticipating a faithful adaptation of the beloved source material. In conclusion, the Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] Movie, with its rating of 3/10, struggles to capture the magic of the series it attempts to adapt. The rushed pacing, lack of character development, and absence of emotional depth hinder its ability to do justice to the intricate narrative and compelling characters that fans grew to love in the original series. While it might serve as a passable recap for those familiar with the source material, it ultimately falls flat in its attempt to stand as a standalone cinematic experience. Note: It's important to approach this review with an understanding that the movie's shortcomings may be a result of the challenge inherent in adapting a lengthy series into a condensed format. The intention is to provide an honest assessment while acknowledging the difficulties of such an endeavor. Note 2: Ill add, the one thing i liked is this is a lot more gory than the other fate works, showcasing the brutality of the battle.

They should've restructured the show for the movie instead they made a summary of the show with minor changes. Animation and fighting are fun to watch. Other than that there is nothing special here. The TV show is far better than this. It's only for people who are familiar with every character. It lacks character development and there is no storytelling or narrative. It feels like a compilation of random events. It does not feel like a movie at all. nobody should watch this at the cinema because this thing has nothing to do with the cinema. Waste of time. Not recommended.

The only Fate Stay Night anime I have watched is the original 2006 version which I really enjoyed. I know that this movie is based on the anime of the same name, which I will also watch however, as a stand alone movie, it was shitty. I find anime movies based off a series are usually just a really long summary of the anime and as a summary this sucked pretty bad. I usually never watch anime movies based off an actual anime because most of the time they tend to be just summaries. This is where I would rather have a filler anime movie instead of a whole retelling of the story in movie format. It's just pointless and a waste of money and resources. I love Studio Ghibli movies so much more, because the movies are originals, they don’t just hash out the same material even if they have a source, like Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo which are both based on books. First off, the first hour of this movie, was way too choppy. This is supposed to summarize the series yet, if I hadn’t watched the original and had a basic knowledge of the show and characters, I would have no clue what this anime was about. Especially, considering they edited it in really weird places. I had to mentally process how we got from point A to point B and before I knew what happened, I was already on point C. It made no sense. As a story as a whole, if someone were to just pick this movie up, they would be totally confused. They wouldn’t know what was happening at all. The animation was nice to look at and a lot better compared to the original, especially the fight scenes. However, during that first hour, you just get this fast pace, basic knowledge of the plot: Of seven hero spirits in history who fight alongside magi (sorcerers) for the Holy Grail that grants any wish. They literally explain that in less than 2 minutes. From that measly introduction, you get the main character Shiro, cleaning up after dinner, walking his friend back home and than you cut to a magi summoning a spirit and from there is goes everywhere. You get snip bits of characters meeting and fights and before you can wrap your head on what’s going on, the pace slows down a little, to where characters are finally having full fledged conversations with each other rather than just fighting. The only real time the pace of the movie really slowed down and stopped being choppy errrr stopped being as choppy compared to the beginning was during the fight scenes. It felt like the animators wanted to bombard you with characters so you couldn't recognize the lack of plot and story in this anime and before you know it, these characters are fighting again. This movie to me is more confusing than Akira. I understood Akira, even though I really need to watch it again because, dame that movie really fucked with my head. Hell, the mangaka made Akira before he had concluded his manga series, so the movie and manga are different. That's what I call original! But, this was in a completely different category of mind fuck. This turned my brain into putty with it’s choppy editing and terrible pacing. This is even worse than Angel Beats and that had 12 episodes, they had good solid episodes but terrible over all pacing. Too rushed. That’s what this was. Too rushed. They wanted to go to point A,B,C as fast as possible so they could take their sweet time on Z. Which is absolutely pointless, because a GOOD movies has a solid beginning and middle but this one lacked all three.

Of every Visual Novel adaptation I have seen, this is by FAR the most faithful to the source. Every point that advances the plot, and every bit of character development, it is all in there. This unfortunately makes the scenes seem schizophrenic at times, jumping around in a way that is likely confusing if you are not familiar with the game itself. The music is good but they regrettably chose not to include any music from the original, not even remixes, and so some of the most epic songs simply aren't there. I left certain scenes feeling "This would have been much better if 'Emiya' had been playing", if it isn't broken don't fix it. The art is clean and crisp, and fitting of the style, and Nasu's amazing storytelling isn't absent either. (The only shame is the Realta-Nua parts, but that is to be expected I suppose.) If you've played the game? This movie is a 10, if you haven't, it will sit at around 7-8.

Fate/Stay Night Movie: Unlimited Blade Works, as a standalone movie is a decent enough watch, the animation quality is good, the OST is well suited to what is happening at the time, the story itself feels as though at times, it expects the audience to have prior knowledge of certain elements or characters. While the major characters are decently developed, there are characters that feel as though they should have been more noteworthy, but are rapidly dismissed moments later. Regarding this movie personally I find it enjoyable and can recommend it if you want a decent watch, but not fully delve into the Fate/ Franchise, but you would certainly get more out of having either played the original Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel, at a minimum the Fate Route of the game, if you have not played the game then the 2006 Fate/Stay Night Anime, that although not 100% faithful to the Fate Route still covers most elements of the Fate Route, while mixing in elements of the other Routes of the game. That said if you are a Fate/ fan and have been one for quite some time, you may not enjoy this as much as other adaptations or fate media, but may still be a quick decent watch if you want something shorter.

I'm really disappointed by this movie! First of all, I'm a huge fan of the "Fate" franchise and have watched "Fate/Zero" and "Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works" the anime and am currently watching "Fate/EXTRA Last Encore", but this movie really is bad. The worst thing is, that it feels like a summary of the anime, but without all the important scenes to understand the story. Don't get me wrong here, the visuals are outstanding (Like you'd expect it from the "Fate" franchise), but I don't see any reason to watch this movie! This is also the reason I didn't enjoy it and giving it only a 1. To make this clearer: If you watched the anime, then there's no need to watch this movie, since it's the exact same scenes, just cut together with important scenes cut out so it fits into movie length. And if you haven't watched the anime, you shouldn't watch this movie, since there are so many scenes missing to understand the movie, that you will miss out on great things from the story and should just rather watch the anime. The anime is great and I really like "Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works", it's actually my favorite "Fate" show, but I just don't get why this movie exists. If you ask me, just watch the anime, you'll enjoy it more...

I watched Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero's first season before and enjoyed both a lot, so I had really high expectations before watching Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. The Story and art are good. However, there is a little problem with the characters. Since the movie is only one hour and forty minutes, it fails to portray its characters in depth. Everything is happening as if in a rush. Perhaps if overall duration of the movie were longer, it could bring more depth to the characters. But still I enjoyed it and believe that everyone who watched TV series of Fate/Stay Night should give it a try!

If only... This movie version has a wonderful production. The soundtrack is unarguably another great job by Kenji Kawai, delivering a good mix of epic and beautiful tracks. The animation has a good quality for its time, with a visual style close to that of the visual novel, a beautiful lighting style and no annoying excessive usage of CGI as in many modern animes. Many battle sequences are magnificently directed. Tohsaka's tsundere, bold and youthful personality is depicted accurately. Fun and slice of life moments are also depicted correctly. However, a movie was not a good choice to summarize the story. The pacing is rushed, skips many explanations, and it barely gives time to enjoy the characters, their relationships and actions. It was made for those who read the novel first (considering that Ufotable's works hadn't come out yet). If only... If only DEEN had made it a full series or a set of movies instead of a single movie, learning from the mistakes made in the Saber's route anime, this would have been the definite adaptation. The only reason why I recommend watching it is because of completion, as it shows a different point of view and a closer experience of what the visual novel feels like in comparison to Ufotable's version.

This review will once again from a Visual Novel player. [ Minor Spoiler ahead ] The movie adaptation is just horrible. You can't even call this a summary, because 75% of Shirou's monologues and voice lines are cut. This is not a good starter for a first timer watcher. I can't really amass my dissatisfaction after finishing the movie. The only scene I liked from the movie is the Shirou vs Archer, other than that all of it are completely dumpsterfire. PLEASE IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE FATE UBW ROUTE AS AN ANIME ONLY WATCHER AND IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME. WATCH THE UFOTABLE UBW ADAPTAION. ALTHOUGH THE VN IS STILL SUPERIOR, THE UFOTABLE ADAPTATION IS FAR FAR FAR BETTER THAN THIS.
